Trail head:

Trail head Kraiter-Talbachklamm or trail head in the village of Untertal

Walking time:

approximately 6 hours
(Schladming to Riesachsee Lake and back to Seeleiten car-park)

The full day hike starts in Schladming at the trail head Kraiter-Talbachklamm and takes course through Talbachklamm gorge towards the village of Untertal (approx. 45 minutes). Passing the fire station and the trail head Untertal village the hike continues to Janerbrücke bridge along meadows and farms.

After about 200 m along Untertalstraße road you turn off right at Hinkerbrücke bridge and walk on to the Toteisboden nature conservancy with its unique vegetation is the next interesting spot along the tour. Only a short hike further the valley broadens into what is called Tettermoor, where the Untertalbach river flows gently through the meadows of the fen. After passing several huts and restaurants along the way you reach the Seeleiten parking, where the alpine trail "Höllschlucht" begins.

In 2 cataracts the impressive Riesach waterfall roars into the valley and almost comes into reach with several viewing platforms. Shortly thereafter a 50 m long steel rope suspension bridge spans the entrance "Höllschlucht" gorge and you can enjoy the great panoramic view into the gorge.

Hiking over countless stairs, the alpine trail takes course along the Riesach river until it reaches Riesach lake. For the hike back to Seeleiten parking we recommend the hike via the forest road.
